Hossony
i.About us · Since 1989

Instruments with a signature and a soul.

Since 1989, Hossony has been making violins, violas, cellos and double basses by hand in Taquarituba, in the state of São Paulo. Every instrument is made to order, shaped around the ideas and needs of the person who will play it.

Founded by luthier Eliel Marcos de Almeida, the workshop made its name building to order for demanding and professional musicians. Today Hossony instruments are played all over Brazil — by students and by members of symphony orchestras.

What we do

From the first sketch to the final coat of varnish.

01

Made to order

Every instrument begins with a commission: measurements, tone and comfort agreed with the musician, so the instrument answers exactly to what they are looking for.

02

Personalisation

Custom scrolls, f-holes drawn for the client, wood carving and exotic models. The musician’s idea takes shape at the bench.

03

Painting and varnish

One of Hossony’s best-known hallmarks: painting and varnish applied by hand, with an exceptional finish in every layer.

Our speciality

Double basses and cellos.

It is in the low strings that Hossony is best known and most accomplished. Double basses and cellos built with the same attention to detail — and, above all, to sound quality.

Principles

What we never compromise on.

  1. I.

    Sound comes first

Beauty matters, but the goal is the voice. Everything in the build serves the instrument’s sound quality.

  2. II.

    The musician’s idea

Every commission starts with a conversation. We listen to the musician before we touch the wood.

  3. III.

    No shortcuts in the finish

Painting, varnish and details done by hand, taking the time each stage requires.
