Caring for your instrument in dry weather

Low humidity is wood’s worst enemy. A few simple habits prevent cracks and open seams.

When the air turns dry, wood loses moisture and shrinks. That is when cracks appear in the top and seams come open.

Keep the instrument in its case or bag, away from air conditioning and sunny windows. A case humidifier helps a great deal.

And at the first sign of a buzz or a crack, see your luthier: the sooner, the simpler the repair.
